THE FOLLOWING ARE CORE VALUES THAT DEFINE THE CULTURE OF OUR CHURCH

WE DRAW CIRCLES NOT LINES.

City Hills is a church that is called to show our city what heaven is going to look like!  Regardless of your background, ethnicity, education, you belong here!  We want people to feel that they can belong here even before they believe.  Jesus loved people right where they were and we do as well.

WE ARE FOR KNOXVILLE.

God is doing amazing things in our city and it is our privilege to be a part of it!  As we serve our neighbors, through local outreach, we share the love of Jesus and remind others they are valuable to God.  Whether we are serving the homeless, helping widows, orphans, or single Moms,  we are endeavoring to take hope and life outside of the walls of our church buildings.   Each summer we take part in an annual #ServeDay where we join together with churches all across the world to serve our city!

WE ARE WORSHIPPERS ON AND OFF STAGE.

We are passionate worshippers of Jesus Christ!  This is not just a Sunday-thing for us.  We want all of our lives to be a reflection of God to others.  We recognize that we have a great responsibility to be a positive example of what it means to follow Jesus at all times.

WE WALK TOGETHER AND LAUGH A LOT.

We don’t take ourselves too seriously.  We are a family who loves to have a blast serving God together!  We believe that God has given us life and we love to enjoy it!  We say often “We Are City Hills.”  Which means to us that we are all in this together.  We need each other and want to do life together! We get to do this!

WE OPEN DOORS AND CLEAN FLOORS.  WE ARE SERVANTS.

At City Hills we are not divas, we are servants.   We call the team simply: The Serve Team.  We are a team of servant leaders who puts others before ourselves.  We open doors for people and we are not too good to clean floors.  The humility and servanthood of Jesus Christ is our supreme example of what it means to serve others.

WE CREATE ENGAGING WORSHIP EXPERIENCES.

The Bible teaches us to come together to pray, to worship, and to encourage one another. Each weekend, we create an environment where people can experience God in a real way through passionate worship and practical teaching. At City Hills, Worship Gatherings are a time for people to celebrate the greatness of God in a corporate setting.  From the moment someone pulls onto the parking lot, we want them to have an incredible experience.  We do everything we can to share the love of God with all people each and every weekend.  We believe every service  has the potential to change someone’s life for eternity!  We encourage everyone to be on at least one team that makes the weekend possible.

WE IMPACT THE NEXT GENERATION.

Through City Hills Kids and City Hills Students, we equip the next generation to embrace their calling in Christ. We seek to partner with parents to help them lead their children to follow Christ.

WE DO LIFE IN GROUPS.

Life is so much better together! That’s why we are a church of small groups where people find community, care, and connection. Faith is built, freedom is found, and friends become family through our small groups.  We have three small group semesters; Spring, Summer, and Fall.   Groups meet regularly and serve as welcoming environments for people to further develop their relationship with Jesus and others. “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17.  For more information about small groups visit cityhills.com/groups.

WE HONOR.

We are endeavoring to live a life that honors God and people.  We honor others.  We honor the authority that God has placed in our city, state, nation.  We also honor the spiritual leaders in our church family.  We honor our parents.  We honor age.  We honor nature.  We honor God.  “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” (Romans 12:10)

WE READ THE BIBLE, PRAY, AND FAST.

City Hills began in September 2015 after 21 days of prayer and fasting.  We are a church built on prayer, fasting, and the Word of God.  Each week we have opportunities to pray together.  Twice a year (January & August) we set aside 21 days to seek God together each morning.   For more information and resources about this visit cityhills.com/21days.  We also have Bible reading guides and resources on our mobile app and at cityhills.com/oneyearbible .

WE ARE GENEROUS GIVERS.  WE BELIEVE WE CAN’T OUT-GIVE GOD.

We are never more like God than when we give.  Every time we make a decision to be generous, we discover that our God refuses to be out-given.

We give our time, talent, and treasure to God.  We believe that the giving of tithes and offerings is one of the ways we worship the Lord with our finances. “A tithe of everything you… produce belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.” Leviticus 27:30.  At City Hills we practice tithing for the support of Christ’s Body, the church, as God commands. We believe giving 10% of our income is the Biblical starting place for giving our finances back to the Lord through the local church that God has called us to.

(See Genesis 14:19-20, 28:20-22, Malachi 3:8-12, Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42)

WE NEVER STOP GROWING AND INNOVATING.

We believe that God is not finished with our lives and that we can continue to grow in our relationship with him!  “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14).  We do not believe we have arrived. We are on a journey with God.  We courageously take next steps as God leads us, believing that the best is yet to come!

WE IMPACT THE WORLD.

The Church exists for the world…to show the hope and life of Christ to all who would hear. We send mission teams and missionaries into the world, partner with indigenous churches internationally, and serve those from around the world residing in our city.

WE CARE FOR “THE ONE.”

In everything we do, we focus on impacting just one person.  We are not about the crowds, we are about “The One.”  “What do you think? “If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off.” (Matthew 18:12-13) We leave the ninety nine to reach for “The One” everyday!
